A monthly report is a snapshot taken once and handed over stale. By the time it's in front of a client, the number on it is already a week or two old, and building it took someone's afternoon.
WHAT A MANUAL PROCESS STRUCTURALLY CAN'T DO
It can't refresh itself. It can't cross-check one client's data against another's for something odd (a spike, a block, noise that looks like a real signal and isn't) unless someone happens to notice by eye. It's built once, from whatever the person compiling it remembered to check.

The numbers on the page are the numbers right now, not the numbers from when someone last opened a spreadsheet. And because it's the same system watching every client, the same kind of thing that's easy to miss by hand — the same anomaly showing up across several accounts at once, for instance — is exactly the kind of thing a live system is built to catch.
